Marathon, 2 years post brain injury 🧠

Yesterday, I accomplished something I did not think would be possible ever again. I ran a marathon to celebrate my two-year anniversary of surviving a life-threatening brain injury. This is an incredible milestone for me, and I wanted to share my journey with you all.

Two years ago, my life changed forever. I was involved in a serious incident resulting in an extradural haematoma. i do not remember anything of the night it happened and woke up several days later to my new reality. My doctors said if i was one hour later in making it to the life saving surgery i would not have made it through the night. At the time i did not think i was going to recover, let alone recover and go on to run a marathon. But here I am, two years later, stronger than ever.

My journey to recovery has been challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. It took me months of intensive rehabilitation to relearn basic skills such as walking and speaking. I spent hours in therapy, working on my physical and cognitive abilities. But with each small milestone, I gained a newfound appreciation for life.

Before my accident, I was an avid runner, but I never thought I would be able to run again. However, with hard work, dedication, and the support of my family and friends, I slowly regained my strength and began to train and rebuild my strength and fitness.

The day of running the marathon was filled with excitement and nerves. the last 5 or 6 miles were extremely difficult and took every ounce of mental strength i could muster. As I crossed the finish line, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment that I cannot put into words. I never thought I would be able to run again, let alone complete a marathon. I completed the marathon in a total time of 4 hours and 3 minutes - a little annoying, as i was aiming for under 4 hours but i just could not keep the pace going!

My journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, determination, and gratitude. Life can be unpredictable, but it is how we respond to challenges that truly defines us. I am grateful for every day and every milestone, and I hope that my journey can inspire others to never give up on their dreams.
